Habitat homeware for renters

I was tasked with creating a homeware product for renters, from my research I realised most renters suffer with a lack of space. I always reflected back to the question of how people actually use things in their home. I discovered people use a desk or table in their home for multiple purposes like eating, work and beauty. Using a space for multiple purposes can cause clutter and inconvenience, exploring Japanese design was a key insight around multifunctionality of a space.

I wanted my design to be beautiful and homely, to try and achieve this I incorporated the weaved basket design. I was inspired by traditional African weaving and decided that it would be manufactured by an African weaving outreach, providing people with a stable income and keeping the craft alive. I've noticed people are swaying to more unique pieces and an increase in popularity in ethical shopping.
